More Costumed Figure

I hated my last finished result so much that I've been working on a better one. here are some more thumbnails and color studies of ideas.

I plan on having a better final in a few weeks.

Tomorrow I will make a HUGE post of stuff. EXCITED!?!?!

Finished Illustration... for now

Well, I struggled with the final for this one, msotly because I wasn't sure which way to go. I decided to stick with "cute and whimsical", though, after the fact I am not sure I made the best decision. Oh well.

Here are the thumbnails as I sort of felt out what I wanted.

The digital illustration.

And then, because Is till wasn't happy with the final results I switched media to gouache.

And that turned out even worse, so UUUURGH!

Turns out it's the whole design I dislike. It's missing some... zing, or something. I might have a chance to revisit her this week, and try to flesh out something a little more impressive.

Or maybe I'll just try to do better next time.

Costumed Figure Drawings

Here are the drawings I did in class for my costumed figure class last week. They are all done with an ink pen, brushes and India ink on multimedia sketchbook paper. I love this model (It was the same from from my very first blog post), she is always a treat to draw!

It always takes me a while to warm up. I didn't experiment as much with the shapes in this one, and I think I should have, but I am just so pleased with her natural shape language that I stuck with that. It's a comfortable area for me to work in. Next time I fully intend to really stretch myself and see if I can come up with something really unique.

Spies

Hey guys. here are the final illustrations for the last two weeks of costumed figure drawings. I have to do all of my finished illustrations in a style, and they need to be consistent and portfolio-ready.

All of the blacks/inks are done with ink pen/nibs and the colors are in photoshop with some homemade ink textures over top. I lscanned the thumbs for these but I can't find them so no process this time, sorry.

My concept was that they were two secret agents forced to work together. The guys is more a fun-loving macho man and the chick is all business butt-kicking. Cue sit com.

I'm re-doing the guy later, and removing that weird background element (the brick thing).

My Eyes are Bigger Than My Drawing hand

So I bit off way more than I can chew this term and as a result haven't really been able to stay on top of anything properly, much less do drawings. I haven't had time for warm-up drawings around massive AfterEffects animation projects, 35hours of work, watercolor paintings/thumbs and revamping my portfolio pieces. I am not really positive that I was ready for this Portfolio class only because I don't have any really finished pieces, at least nothing portfolio-quality. (I kind of don't even know what I want to focus on!!!).

So all of that is mounting and I am way stressed out.

I will keep posting things as they come but I can't guarantee they will be super exciting or fun or even frequent. I am going to have to go back to sticking with two classes a term after this, even though it pushes my graduation date back even farther. >.<

Thanks for your support!!

Hey look an animation!

Here's the finished video. I plan on going back and making it better at some point (higher res video clips, slow down the panda-flight pacing, clean up the animations, add some more layers in the space and udnerwater scenes).
