Hey guys! Here's a "lunchbox lineup" aka and action lineup of characters from my Russian interpretation of Robin Hood. The bear is a bit better. Still wrong, though. I think coloring this digitally was a bad plan. I am going to keep working on it. maybe do a watercolor/digital mash-up version.
My name is Laura Slater (Buller); illustrator and concept artist. This is a place to put up projects, daily sketches, warm-ups and miscellaneous art things that come out of my mind. My portfolio website can be found at LauraSlaterIllustrations.com.

Leonid, The Russian Robin Hood
Here's a colored version. Still not happy with the fur texture on the bear and with the bear's snout. There will be another color version tomorrow of a full character line-up!

Peacocks and Butts
A painting I did for a friend's birthday. Got it done on time, mailed it out a month late. AH WELL. He finally got it so I can finally post it.
Some of the subtlety got lost in the scanning. I really wanted to play around with bright colors. He likes artistic nudes. He's also into bohemian/punky girls. So I gave him a punky lady with a sassy bird that has an obscenity in the name.
I wanted to accent her nudity and virility so I added extra pink and shine to her more ample features- the features guys tend to like the most.
Enjoy your bird and butt. Very important combination, those two.

Oh Man Some Characters
Been crazy busy with schoolin's. Here are some character designs I've been working on for a re-visualization of Robin Hood set in 13th century Russia.
This is the Sheriff of Knottingham and the Kobold Hodekin who helps the Robin Hood character (named Leonid) in the woods. Hodekin is a German creature summoned by a young Sergei (The Sheriff) and forced to live in Russia against his will.
Neither of these are on style and both will be revisited/revised. they are also both far too heavily detailed and need to be simplified. Work work work...
Here are some Hodekin designs I discarded.
Here are the main characters.
Leonid/Robin Hood is still a WIP- I need to work on his face a bit more... clean him up.
Here are the last few characters.
Sveta the Wolverine pet of Marina/Maid Marian:
I am going to give her a jeweled collar.
And, for comedic relief, Much, the Miller's Son who idolizes and emulates Leonid in everything he does and is constantly getting himself into scrapes:
This is my third re-do of Much and I think I finally got it nailed down.
Now I have to choose one characters to do a turn-around and sculpture of! Yay!

Hot Air Balloon
Another warm-up painting.
Gold gel pen, whoohoo!
Next warm-up piece may have multi-media. I'm trying to expand my horizons right now. I'm messing around with patterns and adding some new elements like 3D pieces to things now.
Meanwhile, I have 6-9 unfinished paintings on a larger scale for various people/projects I'm doddering through (most have just had their colors worked out). I'm taking a page out of a friend's book (quite literally) and building a "process book" which is a sketchbook with mutlimedia paper where I plot out each project from start to finish and have it all in one place instead of having a few things here, a color study there, some swatches pasted to the wall...
It's a novel idea to me but appeals to my need for simplicity.
School has begun which means more posts for you! I'm pretty stoked.

Fox Again
Messing around with the colors for the fox painting. This is closer to what I wanted. I'll have to repaint it.
