The Work Train

Sorry those of you who are caught in the wreckage of my social life. You're not alone- there are a lot of you. It's only going to get worse until this term is over- I am up to my eyeballs in work. But It's gettting done, dangit!!

A hodgepodge

Here are some character studies for the book dummy I'm working on for the Childrens Book class.

And then some doodles from yesterday they get progressively more bizarre in direct correlation to the rise of my blood alcohol content.

Back to work!

Rocket Rabbit plans and some other crap.

The other day I warmed up with this page:

Then I fleshed out some ideas for Rocket Rabbit:
And a little while ago I played around with some pretend advertisements
for DUDS (and screwed up the painting of one of them. Blah.

That's it. I'm getting crazy busy up in here, gotta slam out some Christmas presents.

Nizzle-Ar-Wizzle

I dunno. There was a doodle and then there was a practice watercolor thing and now it's here and yeah that's all I got.

Back to work! Lots to do!

Muffins

Muffins and I have a long, romantic history. My thighs are evidence of this.

I was trying something new with this comic in the values, and it turned out pretty poorly.
So I threw some color at it in Photoshop and that's about the best I can do for now.
Based on real events (My life, this is what happens in it).

The people involved are me at the sink, My friend Kelly on the hunt and
Marcia the roommate in the other room.

Winter is a-comin'!

For some reason that day I was super emotional and everything was a BIG DEAL.
And I cried at the lamest things.

Rocket Rabbit in color

The Elusive Normanicorn and Rocket Rabbit

I told Norman I would do it, and then I did it. This is why I'm a hero.

And this is Rocket Rabbit, an unlikely superhero. I might have to
make an "Adventures of Rocket Rabbit" series.

I'll color him a little later today.

Color Swatches and Book Sketches

Here are the time-consuming but super-helpful color swatches I've been painting to catalog my paints and how they mix together on the paper I'm using.

And then for homework we are taking the thumbnails of illustrations for our Children's Book and coming up with some finished sketches.  I'm playing around with composition on these to see if I can think of anything more interesting.

Text: This girl at school named Sophie asked me to babysit her fish
when she goes to stay at her gram's house this weekend.
"Jake," Sophie said, "Will you take care of Yo-Yo?"
I've never met Yo-Yo, but I said okay.

Then he worries about whether he can take care of the fish and what kind of things fish need.

Text: What if Yo-Yo wants to play a game after eating a snack?
What kind of games do fish like to play?

Then he worries about if Yo-Yo needs to take a nap, and will he want his special blanket.

Text: Do fish care if their special blankets are all wet?

And then here are a few others for fun. One is he's exhausted already and Sophie hasn't even dropped Yo-Yo off yet, and the other one is when she comes to his house to drop Yo-Yo off.

So I have to figure out which of the first three I like best, then bring them to a finished sketch stage.

And then do it with the rest of the 32-page book!

Nekkid Ladies

Did some figure drawing in class today. Here ya go.

The red is my teacher showing me what I was doing wrong.

Last drawing. For funsies. Might become a watercolor piece. Maybe with some fat squirrels on the ends.

Food-Delerium and some Star Treks

I didn't have time  to eat until 6pm on Monday, and I get pretty crazy without food (in fact, I start getting headaches and cranky after about 4-5 hours without food). I scared a bunch of people in Whole Foods, muttering and giggling at my soup.

Yesterday I had a bad case of The Doldrums. To shake myself of it I watched some Star Trek on Youtube. I am a Star Trek Fan. I love it! TNG and Voyager are brilliant shows about the human condition, and are overall pretty well written.

And Picard/Patrick Stewart is a sexy, sexy bald man.

I watched Voyager (and TNG) with my Mom regularly. Captain janeway had a huge influence on me as a person, and I really just thought she was the best. At some point the producers realized men weren't watcing the show (Catherine's no-bullshit attitude and pratical Captain's wardrobe scared them off) so they introduced 7 of 9, a Borg Victorias Secret model in a skin-tight body suit and stilettos.

WTF.

Anyways, Seven turned out to be ok after a while, when they got so many complaints that they toned down the sexy appeal a bit and made her a little more like a human being and not a walking sex robot.

Still, any time I talk about Voyager to a male Trekkie, all they talk about is how hot Seven is. Seriously. Bah.

Uniorns Are People Too

Just a doodle that I colored for practice. My color theory is crap, apparently.

Some things

Here is a Ghetto Chewbacca and a comic about boob grabbing. I am having a blah day but am oing to color a unicorn picture so that should help.

How To Incorporate Art Into A Terribly Busy Schedule

I have been bogged down with work, homework and housework the past few days, and there have been times when it feels like I simply do not have time to set up all o my inks and watercolors and make art for fun, or find some stillife scene to sketch.

So to keep my art-muscles limber, I make some of my chors into art exercises. Like my shopping list! And planning an approach to cleaning my bedroom (You'll see that one tomorrow).

And now, my computer has eaten my homework so I'm going to breath into a paper bag and re-type a story into an InDesign format....

Sunday Cyclops

Here is your Sunday Cyclops. Really he was being used to figure out if I could make this hideous salmon color work, and the answer is no, and I glazed over him with a bluish color to make him purpler and everything just went downhill from there. But I like the idea for this little image and might refine it later.

And here is a true story comic about my day at work dressed up for Halloween.

That poor lady was pretty confused by the whole thing. She joked about it a little later, but kept eyeballing my clothes like she'd buy them of me for top dollar!

Speaking of work, off I go!

The Batconomy, Noisy Boogers and Hamsters

I've been very busy lately and will continue to be so for a few weeks. I will do my best to update daily. I have been drawing the past few days, I just haven't had to time to scan things in and adjust them for the internet (which takes about 5-10 min per image blah).

Here are two comics and some hamsters.

True story. Marcia really is a very good driver normally. This was a fluke incident.
I'm sure other people can relate.

I am very aware there is no "p" in "hamsters". Thanks you. This was yet another instance where I was so focused on the lettering I completely forgot there was a real word in there somewhere.

And here I am playing with different shapes for hamsters. Note there is no kitty butt in this post.

There is, however, a hamster butt.

I'll color these guys later.

To Be Refined

Some doodles I did last night around homework that I will refine more tomorrow.

This one is inspired by my very best friend Jane (whose delicious baked goods blog is here  http://laceycakes.tumblr.com/ ).

This was inspired by a girl I saw who looked soooooo bored.

The Warmups Continue

More warm-ups, done during class....

And here is the finished watercolor of my Jack and the Beanstalk thingy. It has value problems, I need to go in and fix a lot of things. Maybe I'll have time.

Hopefully there will be some watercolors for you tomorrow.
