Winter Fox

I painted this for my folks but I'm not entirely happy with the final outcome. I'll probably do it again just to try and get it right. Maybe I'll make this into a card.

Hm. Looks like it scanned a little fuzzy. Bah.

Gift for the Grandparents

Christmas painting for my grandparents. I'm pretty sure they don't know this blog exists so I'm posting it here because I SWEAR I'm not just sitting around picking the lint from my toes.

This is one of 8 paintings due within the next two weeks. 0.o

The gold is gold gel pen. OH MAN I LOVE THIS PEN. Gunna be gold and silver on EVERYTHING.

Gnarly, Dude!

Realized I hadn't picked up a card for my boyfriend's brother-in-law whose party we were attending in an hour, so I made one really quickly. He came up with the image and I draw/painted it. Here's a quick camera phone picture.

Totally RAD. Haha.

Christmas Is Coming... FOR YOUR BLOOD

Had to map out a goal chart for the things I need to have finished painting for presents. Can't get many out, sadly (Sorry to people who don't get one =/).

My job is also bringing my work hours up to full time starting next week until early January

Meanwhile, here is a thing I am working on. Maybe with my brother. If he ever gets back to me. *Pointed look*

And here asre some super-fast color studies of little paintings I'm working on.

And I can't share the other things I'm doing with you. So, have fun!

Orange You Glad To See Me?

Just messing with color as a warm-up. Working on some big ink/watercolor pieces. One's going to be a collaborative piece with my totally awesome little brother! You should see his site here At this snazzy link.

Freestyle Warm-ups

A design warm-up; space ships based loosely on 1950's "futuristic" feelings.

And some warm-up doodles.

Oh man. I have internet again. Also, working on portfolio, and re-doing an Aftereffects project from last year. Trying to land myself an internship in the next 6 months.

Brainstorming

Whoever said aimless doodling gets you nowhere had no imagination.

A lot of these are "I don't feel like a drawing exercise, let's just draw things" doodles. Some of them are brainstorming ideas for some postcards and paintings I need to do.

Melisandre Finished

Heeeeyyyy I colored Melisandre! Well, kind of. She's not where I'd like her to be but I have to go draw other things now so....

Melisandre is from the series "A Song of Ice and Fire". She is completely crazy, seductive, fiery and exotic and likes to set people on fire for her big fire god. So... here is kind of how she looks in my head. Originally this was just a study of this pose but then I got to sort of adding clothes and thinking about the book I was reading and she came into being.

Melisandre is (c) George R.R. Martin.

WIP Melisandre

I finished book 3 of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire". I am waiting for book 4 to arrive.

Meanwhile, I drew Melisandre. She is crazy. Whoah.

I feel like she doesn't look old enough. I'm going to keep working on her and then color her. YAY.

Fanart Friday: Monster Pulse

You guys, Monster Pulse is an awesome comic by Magnolia Porter. Julie and Kera are awesome. Here is a fan art I made of them!

And now you HAVE to read the comic!!

Beautiful Storytelling With Simplicity

Forewarning: Since I had to close my social networking accounts for reasons I can't explain right now, this blog willl be more... bloggy. But only with art-related things, I promise. It's partly because I want to catalog these things so I can reference them again later, and partly because GUYS YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS!!

So, if you're into storytelling, storyboarding or anything like that and want an amazing example of  simple, well-thought-out introduction to a character with zero dialogue, look to the opening sequence for Batman; The Animated Series. I'm serious.

Here's a comprehensive breakdown of why this is so brilliant http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/11/04/ask-chris-78-why-the-batman-the-animated-series-opening-is/

While you read that, I'm watching Batman; the Animated Series and drawing some fan art (because it's FRIDAY!).

CANDY CANDY CANDY

I am making art-things, just can't share much of it. Also, a lot of it's total crap.

Like this.

If you can donate or at least pass around

A friend of an acquaintance was put in a coma by a drunk driver recently, and they need help footing some of the bills. I am super fortunate to not be in this poor girl's shoes. I am going to see if there is anything worth auctioning of my stuff, but if anyone who reads this has things they want to donate or can at least pass it along, much oblidged.

Candy Disorder

We didn't get any trick-or-treaters this year which left us with the grueling task of devouring 5 bags of candy all by ourselves.

I have absolutely no willpower at all. Yeesh.

Bed Rest Doodles

I haven't been able to draw for long stretches at a time. But here are some doodles I have made when I can. I am also slowly working on a project for a friend, but it involves an NDA so I can't share it.

Life With A Mallet

Hey guys- something big happened and it kind of made everything stop dead for me in life for a bit. It's going to be a while before I am recovered enough to post art- though hopefully not TOO long. As soon as I am allowed to discuss the exact nature of the circumstances I'll fill you in (maybe with a comic!) but until then I can't say anything.

Sorry!

Game Of Thrones Sexy Times

Been re-reading game of Thrones after watching the first season of the series. I forgot how much sex and boobs and beheadings and sticking body parts on pikes there is. It's glorious!

Inspired by Lee White

Need more time to do things like this. It took me 2 hours and 3 sheets of paper to warm up and then this painting itself took me 2 hours.

The Power of Pandas

I have SO MUCH STUFF to scan and put here and GUESS WHAT. I will probably do that Sunday. How cool is that?

In the mean time, an inspiring tale:

A year or so ago, the inspirational Meredith Gran of http://octopuspie.com/ fame put up an ad asking for an intern. She was based in Portland, and I happened to be jobless. The only downside- it iterated that having a car was preferable.

This was one month after my car was stolen and the insurance company deemed it worth a whole $1200.

BUT I APPLIED. Because I am persistent and because I have hope and because I REALLY REALLY wanted to do it.

So I wrote an e-mail detailing my credentials, explaining my fervor for her experience and delicious, delicious talent, and stated that while I no longer had a car, I did have a bike that ran on the power of magical pandas, love, and my Chun Li thighs.

I then attached an image of how I imagined life would be as Meredith's Assistant.

 I got the job.

It was awesome.

I don't think I was perhaps the best fit for a long-term position like that, but I learned so so much about the business aspect of things. Also, I got to hang out and hobnob with Meredith, R. Stevens (http://www.dieselsweeties.com), Aaron Diaz (http://www.dresdencodak.com), and Erica Moen (http://www.darcomic.org/ and http://buckocomic.com ). It was a great experience and I never would have gotten it if I hadn't taken a risk, put msyelf out there and proven that I would go above and beyond.

Arts will be back mid-August

SO, long story short, I requested a transfer from the survival-job store I am at to one much closer that could give me less intense hours (I'm working about 25 hours a week plus a 1.5 hour commute one-way- and I have a second job where I work about 14 hours a week on top of it... plus school....).

This transfer won't go through until August 16th. After that I will actually be able to do art again and I am so excited.

Sorry for the long delay. It's really tricky finding a good balance between making money to put food in your mouth and making time to further your career as an artist. This is the only way I know how to do it. =P

Questions 02

The next questions. I think she thought I would be tripped up by this one but it was a no-brainer!

Of  course, you can see where I goofed on the lettering. BUT WHATEVER I'M NOT PERFECT.
