CTN Figure Drawings

Hey guys! CTN was an interesting experience with positive and negative sides. One nice thing was they had ongoing costume figure drawing in the halls. I tried to take advantage of it when I needed a break from the chaos. Here are a few pages of sketches.

DR. Sketchy's, Aug 2013

I went to a Dr. Sketchy's this past weekend. The model had a sort of film noir detective lady thing going on. I don't know why, but I struggled the entire evening and wasn't too proud of anything I came up with. Oh well. Here you are anyways!

I worked in pencils and brush pens. In think next time I need to start with something smooshy and loose, like charcoal or a crow quill, to help me shake the more comfortable, heavy cartoony look I always fall back into.

 There was a little competition to make a 

book cover out of this pose.

The last is a quick sketch of the MC for the event. 

Hopefully next time I'll be able to get into a better groove instead of getting 

stuck in whatever the heck rut happened this last time. :)

Medieval Maiden

Another costume figure class! This model was very conservative with her poses, but the costume itself was pretty fun to draw! I left early to work, but here's what I got out of it.

Crazy People Are Fun to Draw

Since our model was sick last week, we drew from photos our teacher threw up on the projector. Our homework was then to either use one of those sketches or find some source material of our own to make a finished illustration from. Today I am going back to those sketches to playa round with what I did in class, but the other day I decided to have a little fun and go through my own references and see what ic ame up with.

I got a bit frustrated with myself (I obviously didn't give myself much time to warm up). But I took one of the doodles I kind of liked and started to play around with watercolors...

ANY CRITIQUE IS WELCOME, THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!!

They're fine, but not wonderful. So now I know if I HAVE to turn something in I can finish one of these and it'll be OK, but I'm not quite pleased yet. So I'm going back to my in-class sketches and seeing if I come up with anything better. ^_^

I was unexpectedly given today off of work, my first day without work or school (or both) in two months! I am going to do laundry and take advantage of the extra time to really explore a few different possibilities for this illustration!

I'll post the in-class sketches along with other color studies and thumbnails tomorrow.

Costumed Figure Day 01

Monday night was Costumed Figure drawing. I'm taking it again as an Independent study with a focus on developing a style and putting together a series of finished, unified works for my portfolio. We spent the first day drawing from projected images. I am switching to ink/watercolor next week and will continue to work with them through the term.
